Q: Why do dogs eat their own stool or that of other animals?
A: The term for “stool eating” is coprophagy and is a common occurrence in dogs. This behavior does not appear to be due to a nutrient deficiency in the diet. It is thought that stool eating could be a form of instinctive scavenging behavior or even a social behavior between dogs within the same household.
